New Delhi, Jul 15: CPI(M) today termed a local court order for registration of an FIR against Mohammad Akhlaq's family in Dadri lynching episode as a "gross travesty of justice" and asked the Uttar Pradesh government to intervene and take necessary legal steps against the ruling.

"The order of the local court to file an FIR against the members of the Akhlaq family on charges of cow slaughter is a gross travesty of justice... It is essential that the Uttar Pradesh government immediately intervene and take the necessary legal steps against this court order," CPI(M) Politburo said in a statement.

The party noted the petition was filed before the court by those involved in the "brutal" murder of Akhlaq and ones who have been putting pressure the family to withdraw the case.

Judicial Magistrate Vijay Kumar had yesterday ordered investigation and lodging of an FIR of cow slaughter against Akhlaq's family. Akhlaq was killed by a mob on September 29 last year on the suspicion that his family stored and consumed beef at their home.
