AIADMK interim general secretary Sasikala Natarajan who was convicted in the Rs 66.5 crore disproportionate assets case will earn Rs 50 a day. The work allotted to her in jail is candle making. Every prisoner is first allotted a job when he or she enters the jail. After a medical check and the allotment of a prisoner number, a job is allotted to the prisoner.
Sasikala and co-convict Ilavarasi were both allotted candle making and the per day salary fixed was at Rs 50. Jail officials say that before Sasikala could enter the prison, she broke down. She hugged her husband and cried, jail officials said.
After she entered the prison a medical check was conducted. She was told to hand over all her belongings which included gold and also the watch worn by her. She was then handed over the blue saree which is the jail uniform, a plate and a mug. Sasikala Natarajan was allotted prisoner number 9934. During her earlier stint in jail during 2015, she was allotted the number 7403.
