Kolkata, Aug 22: Lashing out at the ruling Trinamool Congress over a host of issues, the Congress on Saturday claimed it was gaining ground in West Bengal.

Spelling out the party's plan for next year's assembly and local body polls, Congress state unit president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said his party would be targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool.

"So much time passed but the chief minister showed no concerns about implementing the food security act, but with the assembly polls on the horizon, she is now posturing to implement it but only for her political gains," said Chowdhury.

Chowdhury who has been admitting his party is on a weak wicket in Bengal, asserted the Congress was gaining ground in the state.

"Not only a new zeal is visible among our party workers but people, tired of the Trinamool's misrule are looking up to the Congress. Clear signs are visible that we are consolidating our position," said the Lok Sabha member.

In the wake of a section of students confining Presidency University vice chancellor Anuradha Lohia seeking her resignation, Chowdhury blamed the Trinamool for infesting educational institutions with violence.

Chowdhury also refused to comment about some state party leaders approaching Congress president Sonia Gandhi over his "dictatorial ways". "I can't comment on this as I don't know the reason for which they met her."
