A day after he joined the BJP, former external affairs minister and Congressman S M Krishna criticised his former party. Krishna, who had been a member of the Congress for more than four decades, said that the senior leadership of the Grand Old Party had no seriousness.

"The Congress needs to be rebuilt from the ground to the top, but I see no seriousness in the leadership. There is no connect between the Congress leadership and the rank and file of the party," Krishna told the media in a series of interviews he gave on Thursday. The 84-year-old veteran, when asked why he jumped to the BJP, said that the Congress party had sidelined him and disrespected his presence.

"All that I wanted was respect and periodical consultations. I had never demanded any position," he added. While criticising the Congress, Krishna did not forget to shower praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Modi ji has zero tolerance towards corruption, and I was impressed with this. I also supported his demonetisation move," Krishna said.

Krishna joined the BJP in New Delhi on Wednesday in the presence of BJP president Amit Shah. Speculations are rife that his family members, including daughter Shambhavi Siddhartha will follow suit.
