Communal tension grips Central Mumbai's Lalbaug following clashes during Eid procession
Mumbai, Jan 5: Communal tension gripped Lalbaug area in central Mumbai after a people from two communities allegedly clashed during the Eid-e-Milad procession on Sunday night. A large number of people personnel were deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident.
It was then when a bike was reportedly set on fire which allegedly triggered the tension between the two communities.
As per a TOI report a group of boys from a community were returning after attending Eid-e-Milad procession at south Mumbai when they got involved in a heated argument with some boys from another community at Lalbaug. The situation went out of control and some bikers were hit. A group of people, who hit the boys, was carrying lathis in their hand.
A sizeable number of police personnel were dispatched to the spot and police restricted entry of vehicles from south towards north end at Lalbaug.
As per a Mid-day report, the revellers had hit a traffic constable which prompted others present there to attack them. A motorcycle was burnt during the clash and Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria visited the spot to ensure law and order was maintained.
