He was a college teacher before entering into the world of politics. Ravindra Gaikwad has been in the news for all the wrong reasons and it is strange that the Shiv Sena has not thrown him out of the party yet.

He was a two-time MLA from Umarga constituency in Osmanabad district. He won the elections in 1995 and 2004. He contested the MP seat from Osmanabad and won the elections by a margin of 2 lakh votes against the Nationalist Congress Party's Padmasinh Patil.

Ravindra Gaikwad

He is known as 'Ravi sir' in his constituency considering that he was a teacher of commerce at a local college there. Winning an election by a margin of 2 lakh votes is no easy feat. It is surprising that the voters continued to elect him despite him having a violent reputation.

His latest bout at goondagiri (rowdyism) was when he hit an Air India staffer since he was upset that he did not get a business class seat. He was also involved in a bout at the Maharashtra Sadan when he shoved chapati down the throat of a Muslim who was fasting alleging that quality of food was not good.

Gaikwad today is banned from flying in several major airline such as the Indian Airlines, Spicejet, Jet Airways and Indigo. He is now forced to travel by train. There are also two complaints registered against him with the Delhi police which is now probing the incident.

He has cases registered against him. They include culpable homicide not amounting to murder and charges of stopping a public servant from performing his duty. He tom-toms about the drinking water project that he has set up in his constituency, completely mindful of the fact that, that is his job. He has not done anybody a favour. People in his constituency refer to him as 'Ravi sir'. They say that he has bouts of madness at times when things do not go his way. Why have the people voted for this man is something that one cannot understand. Is he just a 'good bad boy' or is the electorate scared of his rowdyism?
