Babri Masjid
New Delhi, April 4: A Cobrapost operation on the Babri Masjid demolition revealed that it was planned and that top BJP leaders like L K Advani and the then UP chief minister Kalyan Singh, as well the former Congress PM, P V Narasimha Rao were aware of it.

Posing as a would-be author researching for his book on the Ayodhya movement, Cobrapost's associate editor K Ashish travelled to Ayodhya, Faizabad, Tanda, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Mathura, Moradabad in UP, Jaipur, Aurangabad, Mumbai and Gwalior and interviewed 23 people who participated in that operation.

The versions of top Ramjanmabhoomi players Sakshi Maharaj, Acharya Dharmendra, Uma Bharti, Mahant Vedanti and Vinay Katiyar implied that they toiled for months on a secret operation named 'Operation Janmabhoomi' and carried it out with military precision. It is also said that volunteers were trained for months, but were not revealed what the operation was all about. Strategic planning was made taking the shelter of large surging crowds.

Shocking revelations also show how some of the staunch believers were used as cannon balls to instigate police firing on Hindu kar sevaks in 1990 so that the Ayodhya movement gathered steam. The fact that VHP and Bajrang Dal were also part of the conspiracy was not hidden.

In a chest-thumping account of the demolition, one of the interviewees said that there was no laxity in training. A special squad was formed with specialised skills in demolishing structures. They were given military training so that they could climb top buildings with ropes and rugged wall. There was an abundance of petrol bombs and dynamites that were ready to be used on command. In fact, the Bajrang Dal forward squad used chisels, pickaxes, hammers, spades and grappling ropes were used for the demolition.

However, BJP leaders deny the allegations and say that a probe be conducted to confirm the charges. [Read full TOI report]
