CISF beefs up security at Delhi metro stations

New Delhi, Oct 10: The security cover of all metro stations in the national capital has been enhanced in view of the festive season even as CISF has alerted its personnel against any sabotage or terrorist attempt in the mass rapid rail system.

The decision was taken after a high-level review of the security paraphernalia of Delhi Metro by senior Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials here.

Officials said in order to further strengthen security of the over 150 stations in the national capital region, the CISF will enhance the presence of its commando teams, bomb detection and disposal squads and canine sniffer teams at sensitive stations which will be based on threat perception.

"All the critical security components of Delhi Metro like functioning of bomb detection squads, dog squads, armed protection, quick reaction teams, women commando groups, electronic surveillance and functioning of additional teams were reviewed in view of upcoming festival season," they said.

They said the CISF has also discussed the update of security measures with other stakeholders like Delhi Police and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The random profiling of commuters will also be enhanced from this week.

Armed patrols by both armed units and plainclothes CISF personnel will be upped, they said. "The dynamic deployment of armed component at important and sensitive metro stations is another initiative which will be introduced at Delhi metro stations this week," the officials said.

In addition to the enhanced security measures, the teams on the ground have been asked to ensure hassle-free commuting, they added.
