Chennai, Dec 8: At least nine marriages have been cancelled in Chennai on Sunday, Dec 6. Many might be thinking that the marriages got cancelled due to some family complications or because of the incessant rains and massive flood which has hit the city and other parts of Tamil Nadu.

But no one might have thought that the marriages were cancelled for the day because of the Chief Minister of the state, Jayalalithaa.

Yes, all marriages were called off for the CM, the supremo of AIADMK. Earlier it was decided that Jayalalithaa, who is popularly known as Amma, would be the chief guest at the wedding ceremony.

It was SP Shanmuganathan's daughter Tamizharasi's wedding ceremony. She was scheduled to get married to PS Nithin. Both bride and groom are doctors. Shanmuganathan is the Tourism Minister of Tamil Nadu.

According to the invitations, nine more weddings were to happen at the same time, with the blessings of Amma.

It has been reported that the Tourism Minister of the state was in a fix when Jayalalithaa had gone to jail in connection disproportionate assets case. He could not fix the marriage date.

When Amma got bail, he fixed the date. However, the minister once again landed in soup when Jayalalithaa could not turn up to the wedding venue due to the massive floods in the state.

A close relative of the minister was quoted as saying, "You know how these weddings are. The date is fixed based on what the Amma says. Not the amma of the bride or groom, but by the chief minister."
