Chhattisgarh to include 'no polythene' issue in school curriculum

Raipur, Feb 16: Keeping in view the objectives of 'Clean India' mission, Chief Minister Raman Singh has announced to include the issue of 'no-polythene' in school syllabus in order to create awareness among children to protect the environment.

"The issue of ‘no use of polythene’ will be included in the school syllabus soon in the state to make aware the children about threats posed by polythene to the environment," CM said while addressing the children during a programme at his official residence yesterday.

Besides, issues like health hazards posed by open defecation and thrust to sapling plantation will also be included in school curriculum, he added. The Chhattisgarh government has restricted the use of polythene carry bags from this year onwards taking a move towards making the state plastic free.

Citing the short-term and long-term consequences of plastics to the environment, the CM said it causes health hazards to human being as well as animals. Polythene also causes blockages in drains and gutters, leading to serious environmental problems, headed.

"Keeping in view these things we have banned use of plastic carry bags in the state.In several countries, plastic carry bags are banned. With the active participation of people only, the schemes of the government reach to its success and its benefits reach to the masses," he said. Associating the children with activities like making Chhattisgarh free of polythene, ground water conservation and sapling plantation would prove better results in this line, he added.
