Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union minister P Chidambaram, arrives at Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) headquarter in New Delhi

He was called in for questioning on Wednesday in connection with the INX Media case. Most of the questions that the CBI asked were relating to the money allegedly received by him for his services, his indirect control in firm instrumental in the deal - Advantage Strategic Consulting Pvt Ltd (ASCPL) and his email conversations with directors of ASCPL in which Karti was giving instructions on various business deals.

Following a directive by the Supreme Court, Karti arrived for questioning at the CBI headquarters at around 10.20 am. He has been told to appear for questioning once again on August 28.

The evidence is strong against him and the rest, CBI sources said. It is alleged that the firms controlled by him had received around Rs 3.60 crore for allegedly assisting INX Media in getting Foreign Investment Promotion Board approaval from the Finance Ministry so that the company could get funds from Mauritius.

He was the ultimate beneficiary of ASCPL and quid pro quo, the CBI has alleged. The CBI would also question the directors of ASCPL Ravi Vishwanathan, Mohanan Rajesh and S Bhaskararaman, a chartered account who allegedly handled all the business activities of Karti. They would join the investigations at New Delhi on August 28, while Chinna Bala Nageswar Reddy an associate has been called to the CBI's office in Chennai.

The case against Karti was registered on May 15. He was then summoned by the CBI and a look out circular too was issued against him. He moved the Madras High Court which in turn stayed the LOC. The Supreme Court then vacated the stay and directed him to join the CBI probe.
