Cauvery row: Defy Supreme Court, go by legislature's resolution, Karnataka parties tell CM
After being told that no water to Tamil Nadu should be released today, the Karnataka cabinet would meet at 2 PM today to take a final decision. The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah today convened an all party meeting to decide on the next course of action after the Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the state to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
At the all party meeting the Chief Minister was told that no water should be released to Tamil Nadu today. The court had ordered the release of 6,000 cusecs of water to TN between Tuesday and Thursday. However at the all party meeting, it was suggested that they should wait for the outcome of the meeting convened by the centre.
The centre has convened a meeting on Thursday in which the Chief Minister of Karnataka would be present. Since Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa is in hospital, the PWD minister of the state has been delegated to attend the meeting. Further at the all party meeting, the leaders said that the resolution of the legislative assembly and council is more important and hence that should be followed. Karnataka had last week resolved to release Cauvery water only for drinking water purposes.
The CM after hearing out all the leaders said that he would convene a cabinet meeting at 2 PM today. He said that a final decision on this issue would be taken at the cabinet meeting.
