Hyderabad, June 30: A Hyderabad city court granted bail to Telugu Desam Party legislator Revanth Reddy in the cash for votes scam. The bail was granted on certain conditions which included a surety and also directive to cooperate with the investigation.
Reddy had moved for bail after being arrested in connection with the cash for votes scam. He was arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau.
The alleged role of Revanth Reddy:
The Anti Corruption Bureau had arrested Revanth Reddy after allegations were made that he had offered bribe to a legislator to vote for the TDP in the Telangana legislative council. The allegation was that he had offered a bribe of Rs 50 lakh to nominated legislator Elvis Stephenson.
Earlier during the day there was talk that Reddy may quit his MLA membership. He was advised to do so as there was a move to suspend him from the legislative assembly.
However the Anti Corruption Bureau set up a trap and arrested Reddy and also his two accomplices. This issue had snowballed into a major controversy between the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu accused his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekara Rao of malice. Rao on the other hand alleged that Naidu was the one who was guiding this scam as he was desperate to gain a foot hold in Telangana.
Naidu even took the matter up to the Union Government and sought its intervention.
