Ajit Pawar
Maharashtra, Oct 9: It seems senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former state deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar has landed in some fresh trouble.

The Maharashtra Police seized Rs 4.85 lakh from a car allegedly being used by Ajit Pawar from Parbani district of Maharashtra on Wednesday.

Police also seized some visiting cards and clothes of Mr Pawar from the intercepted vehicle along with the cash stashed in two bags, Parbhani Superintendent of Police Anant Rokde told media.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Krishna Hazare, who informed the police that the clothes belong to Mr Pawar and an aide.

While one bag in the vehicle, proceeding to Latur from Parbhani when it was intercepted at Gangakhed, had Rs.400,000 in cash, clothes and visiting cards of Mr Pawar, another bag contained personal items of an aide and Rs.85,000 in cash.

So far, the police has seized more than Rs 5 crore in cash in seven incidents across the state and has claimed that the money was allegedly intended to be used to influence voters in the October 15 assembly elections.

Later, NCP issued a statement that the party had given Ajit Pawar Rs 8 lakh for campaign expenses. "The money seized by police came from this allotment, and the party can show details about the money given to and spent by Pawar from this sum," the statement read.
