Mumbai, Nov 5: The Bollywood fraternity clearly seems to be divided into two factions on the burning issue of #AwardWapasi. If some are busy returning their national awards to mark their protest over increasing incidents of religious intolerance, then there are also those who are criticising the move.
After the likes of Kamal Haassan, Anupam Kher and Madhur Bhandarkar opposed the filmmakers' decision of returning their awards as a show of their protest, Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor too termed it a bad move.
The actor, who has acted even in Hollywood movies, said there were incidents of religious intolerance during erstwhile Congress government as well.
Talking to reporters, the actor was quoted as saying, "It's not like this is happening in only this government. No matter who was in power, whether Congress on BJP, all we would say as artists is that we should stand together."
The actor also said that he is not going to return the awards bestowed upon him by the government.
His comments come after Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan said there is extreme intolerance in the country, in the back drop of writers, filmmakers, academicians returning their awards.
The actor's statement triggered a massive controversy as several BJP leaders and right wing outfits criticised him for badmouthing the incumbent government while he was mum over such incidents in the past.
