Camera in girls' hostel: Police beat up protesting students in Kanchi university
Chennai, Sept 28: The students of Kanchi University, who were staging a protest after hidden cameras were found in girls' bathrooms, were brutally beaten up by police, said a Facebook post.

Students had allegedly ransacked the university campus as they were not satisfied with the university's action taken against the electrician who shot obscene videos of girl students. The varsity authorities called the police who beat up the students.

A cell phone recording video was found in the girl's hostel bathroom on Wednesday.

When girl students complained to hostel wardens, an enquiry was launched. Allegedly, it was an electrician, J Raja, who placed the camera in the bathroom. The Kancheepuram taluk police arrested Raja and registered a case under several sections, including Information Technology Act. However, a group of students alleged that the wardens had destroyed the cellphone and sim card before lodging a complaint with the police.

Students alleged that Kanchi University's Chief Warden Vasudevan asked the girls who lodged the complaint, "Were you raped?".
