Budgam firing: Army finds 9 soldiers guilty of killing Kashmiri teenagers

Srinagar, Nov 27: The Army on Thursday indicted nine soldiers including a Junior Commissioned Officer of 53 Rashtriya Rifles for killing two youth in Budgam district on November 3.

According to media reports, the army which has completed its inquiry into the firing incident has found gross violation by the jawans.

The Court of Inquiry recommended court martial proceedings against these jawans.

Soon after the incident, the Army had accepted its mistake and ordered inquiry into it. The Army had also announced the compensation of Rs10 lakh each to the families of youths who lost their lives and Rs five lakh for the two injured in the firing incident.

Two youths - Faisal Yusuf Bhat and Mehrajuddin Dar - were killed, while two others -Shaker Bhat and Zahid Naqash - were injured on November 3 when soldiers of the 53 Rashtriya Rifles opened fire at the car in which they were travelling in Chattergam village, 20 km from Srinagar.

The Army had said the car driver did not stop at a mobile vehicle check post (MVCP) when he was signalled to do so.

Condemning the attack, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley had said that a fair enquiry will be held into the killings and strict action will be taken against the guilty.
