Brigadier accused of raping US doctor; Army orders probe

New Delhi, Aug 7: The Indian Army has ordered a probe in a rape case that involves a serving Brigadier who allegedly assaulted a New York-based doctor-turned-entrepreneur last year.

The accused Brigadier Manoj Tiwari, currently serving at the Army War College, is said to have raped the doctor when he was serving as a Military Attache to

India's Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

A colonel then, the officer is alleged to have lied to the woman regarding his marital status, pursuing the woman and then drugging her before raping her in his office.

Subsequently, he returned home and was promoted to the position of a Brigadier. The army had no idea of the incident then. The complainant further said that he had threatened her against reporting this incident and also promised her marriage.
