On Wednesday, the capital city of Karnataka, Bengaluru, witnessed some contradictory images.

On the one hand, Bengaluru roads were strewn with garbage and fallen leaves and branches from trees following incessant rains in the last two days, on the other hand, posters of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi lovingly holding her "infant" grandson and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in her lap were pasted all over the city. The two contradictory "faces" of India's IT hub made some interesting reading.

B’luru posters of ‘baby’ Rahul in Indira’s lap once again prove ‘immaturity’ of Congress VP?

The members of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) thought that since Rahul visited the city to inaugurate one of the Indira canteens (named after the Congress stalwart) in Kanakanapalya, near Ashoka pillar in the city, on Wednesday, so pictures of "baby" Rahul with the late PM would pass the message loud and clear.

However, it looks like these "black and white" posters have further dented the image of Rahul (seen as a toddler with Indira) as he is always accused of being "immature" by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The former PM was assassinated on October 31, 1984, when Rahul was just 14 years old.

Thus there is no chance of pictures of Indira with a grown-up Rahul. But the Gandhi family album will definitely have some pictures of adolescent Rahul with his grandmother. Probably, the KPCC workers could have picked up one of those. Although the posters did not prove "politically" correct, they are definitely adorable.

Immediately, after the inauguration of Kanakanapalya outlet of Indira canteen, 100 more such canteens started serving food to the people across the city. Rahul also enjoyed his lunch in the canteen after the inauguration.

As a part of his Bengaluru visit, Rahul also addressed his party workers.

The canteen is the flagship programme of the Congress government in the state to reach out to the poor. The canteen has borrowed its idea from Amma canteen-named after former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, in Tamil Nadu, where food is provided at a discounted price to the disadvantage section of society.

In the coming days, 97 more such canteens will open its door in various parts of the city.

The opening of Indira canteens across the city clearly indicated the Congress' aim to attract the votes of poor ahead of assembly elections, scheduled next year. Rahul and his team members are hoping to repeat its win in the state.

Rahul has been frequently visiting the state ahead of elections. Recently, BJP president Amit Shah made a three-day long trip to Karnataka.
