BJP steps up attack on Himahal CM, demands resignation
Shimla, Jan 1: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday stepped attack on Virbhadra Singh, chief minister of Himachal Pradesh and demanded his resignation. Singh is accused of awarding favours to power companies. Also, CBI claims that Mr Singh filed revised income-tax returns for three years from 2007 to 2010.

"We demand Virbhadra Singh's resignation. It is a crime", said BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Wednesday. "Facts had been hidden from the EC. We have submitted a letter to EC with details against Virbhadra Singh and his wife,"he added.

The BJP has alleged that he awarded extensions for a hydel project in his state to a defaulting power company where his children and wife are shareholders. The BJP leader Arun Jaitley has written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and marked a copy to CBI Director Ranjit Sinha making various allegations of corruption against Virbhadra Singh, including the accusation that he received bribes of over Rs. two crore from a private steel firm during his tenure as Union Steel Minister.
