Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Saturday said BJP's main opponent in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls is BSP as the Congress and the Samajwadi Party are not in contention at all.
"UP ke Assembly chunaav me BJP ko khatra ab sirf BSP se hai; SP, Congress, jo ki abhi oxygen par hi chal rahi hai, unse nahi hai (Main threat to BJP in UP polls is from BSP and not from Congress and SP)," she said in her address to the media.
She further took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for becoming emotional during a speech in Goa earlier this month, saying that it amounted to "blackmailing the public".
The Prime Minister had earlier become emotional while saying that he had sacrificed everything, including his family, for the nation.
"PM ne apna ghar-parrivar desh ke liye chhoda hai ye achi baat hai, par iska ye matlab nahi ke vo desh ke logo ko pareshan karein (If PM left family for the country then it is a good thing, but that does not mean than he can trouble the people)," she said.
Mayawati further said that the decision to demonetise Rs.500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes was done for political gains.
Earlier this month, the government demonetised currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, replacing them with new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 bills in an effort to root out black money and terror funding.
The decision has had a severe impact on the lives of the people as massive cash crunch hit the entire nation.
People faced grave incovenience as everyone queued up in front of banks and ATMs to get hold of valid currency notes.
