"Nityanand Rai Ji and I called Nitish Ji. BJP decides to support him. We will support the government formed under him. We will inform this to the Governor also," Bihar BJP leader Sushil Modi told news agency ANI.

BJP leaders JP Nadda and Sanjay Mayukh are set to visit Patna on Thursday.

Nitish Kumar on Wednesday resigned as Bihar Chief Minister after a standoff with RJD over corruption charges against Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had earlier today said that the JD(U)-RJD alliance was a mismatch and forged due to BJP's 'fear'.

"This (RJD-JDU) alliance was a mismatch. It was forged out of fear of BJP. Nitish was part of NDA government in the past and we have worked with him," he had said.

The BJP also said that they did not want mid-term polls in Bihar.
