BJP chief Amit Shah files nomination for RS elections from Gujarat
The filing of nominations for the biennial election started on July 22 for the August 8 election. The terms of BJP Rajya Sabha MPs from Gujarat Dilip Pandya and Smriti Irani will end on August 18.
Three Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates, including party chief Amit Shah, on Friday filed nomination for Rajya Sabha elections from Gujarat.
Shah was accompanied by Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani and former CM Anandiben Patel.

The BJP has re-nominated Union Minister Smriti Irani for the second seat. Balwantsinh Rajput, who quit Congress, is the third BJP candidate to file nomination.

The filing of nominations for the biennial election started on July 22 for the August 8 election. The terms of BJP Rajya Sabha MPs from Gujarat Dilip Pandya and Smriti Irani will end on August 18.
The BJP has 121 legislators and the Congress has 57 in the 182-seat Gujarat assembly. Congress needs the support of 47 for Ahmed Patel to win. If 11 vote against Patel, he could be in trouble.
The last date for filing of nominations for 10 Rajya Sabha vacancies from Gujarat, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh is July 28. The process of nominations began on July 22 for the August 8 election.
