BJP calls Chidambaram ‘irresponsible, anti-national’ over his Kashmir ‘lost’ remark
The BJP has condemned P Chidambaram's latest Kashmir 'lost' remark on Saturday.
New Delhi, Feb 25: On Saturday, union minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Venkaiah Naidu slammed former finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram over his Kashmir remark.
Reacting to Chidambaram's 'Kashmir nearly lost due to Centre's policies' remark, Naidu said, "Shocking, irresponsible and bordering on anti-national." "Farooq Abdullah after having lost power has changed his tone and tune. It's opportunistic and double talk. After losing power, the Congress and its allies look like a fish out of water," Naidu added.
Earlier on Friday, Chidambaram said that he had a sinking feeling that Kashmir was nearly lost for India because the Central government used brute force to quell dissent in the Valley.
Addressing a meeting organised by Manthan--a public discourse platform--in Hyderabad on Friday, Chidambaram said he feared the situation would worsen if the Centre did not take up course correction like what was done by the Cabinet Committee on security in 2010, reported The Hindu.
"The graph of violence rapidly declined after that, but it grew at an alarming rate now," The Hindu quoted the senior Congress leader.
"Seven million persons of Kashmir valley felt alienated by the oppressive methods of the Indian government, which was a terrible mistake," Chidambaram said. He added that the statement of Chief of Army Staff Bipin Rawat that anyone who interfered with defence operations would be treated as anti-national "was the last straw".
