New Delhi, Nov 19: Cup of woes for Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party is not getting over. Hardly a controversy ends before another erupts, making it tough for the party to sustain in coming Delhi Assembly election. In a big blow to AAP, a party leader in Gujarat has been arrested on charge of raping 17-year-old girl.
Police arrested Mansukh Dhokai, who had contested Lok Sabha polls from Porbandar, after a girl filed a rape complaint against him.
"A 17-year-old girl, who is a class eleven student in a city-based school, filed a complaint alleging that Dhokai had raped her four times and threatened her with dire consequences, if she spoke about the incident of rape," Rajkot City Women's police station's in-charge police sub-inspector M M Jadeja said.
"The police arrested Dhokai today from his residence at Porbanadar city and brought him to Rajkot for interrogation," Jadeja said. Dhokai (59), a distant relative of the minor, whom she addressed as her "maternal uncle", allegedly raped her at her residence last month, Jadeja said.
Dhokai had raped her in a city-based hotel earlier and threatened her that he would kill her as well as her family, if she ever revealed the incident to anybody, the girl alleged in her complaint.
The police has registered a report under Section 376 (for rape) and Section 506 (2) of the Indian Penal Code, Jadeja said. Facing a major embarrassment, AAP's Gujarat unit has expelled Dhokai from the party after media reports suggested that their leader is allegedly involved in a rape case.
"After media reports that AAP candidate from Porbandar Lok Sabha seat, Mansukh Dhokai, is allegedly involved in raping a minor girl, the party has expelled him with immediate effect.
AAP condemns this incident in the strongest words," AAP's media statement said. AAP workers also met the girl and ensured their full support, he said.
At a time when party is gearing for Delhi election, this will definitely prove to be a big dampener.
