Kolkata, March 21: Much to the relief of Amitabh Bachchan fans, it has been made clear by CAB President Sourav Ganguly that not only did the superstar not charge anything for singing the national anthem, but also paid Rs 30 lakh from his own pockets, which included his travel costs and hotel fare.
He said,"Mr Bachchan is one and only, a special person. I am eternally grateful to him. Can you imagine someone paying Rs 30 lakhs of his own pocket to perform? He booked his own flight, bought his own tickets and even paid the hotel bills. I literally begged him to take some money but he said that I am doing it for love and there is no question of money being involved."
After India beat Pakistan by six wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, a report in the social media said that the star had charged Rs 4 crores to sing the national anthem and be present for the gala pre-match ceremony where former cricketers were felicitated. While many disbelieved, others criticized him.
Amitabh Bachchan took to the Twitter and spoke up:
