Mumbai, March 9: A day after her death, Mumbai Police could not divulge any details about the investigation in connection with Neelam's suicide case. Neelam, wife of Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh, committed suicide in the wee hours of Sunday, March 8.

According to Mumbai Police, Neelam was upset with her husband who used to come home late even after their marriage. Police sources were quoted as saying, "Prima facie, we have learnt that Neelam would get upset with her husband for coming home late from work. Being in the music industry, Singh used to work at odd hours."

Why Bhojpuri singer's wife kills self?

Times of India quoted the sources as saying, "We are waiting for Neelam's parents to arrive in Mumbai from Patna, where they are based. We will inquire with them whether Neelam had confided in them about any problems she might have suffered."

21-year-old Neelam was found hanging at their apartment in Juhu, Mumbai. Neelam and Pawan got married on on Dec 1, 2014. The Bhojpuri singer was not present at the house when Neelam killed self.

According to sources, Neelam's elder sister, who is married to Pawan's brother, was at the same apartment. An official was quoted as saying, "Post midnight, Neelam went into her bedroom. She is believed to have hanged herself from the ceiling fan between 1 and 3 am. Her sister was in another room while Pawan had gone for a work-related meeting."

"The reason behind her taking the extreme step is not clear yet. Her family says she did not manifest any signs of depression. After spotting Neelam hanging, the other family members informed Pawan, who had gone out. Pawan then rushed back home after getting the news," he said.

The body was taken to the nearby civic hospital where postmortem was conducted, police said, adding, the family would be questioned in a day or two to ascertain the cause behind her suicide.
