Mathura, April 17: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has backed the priests of Bankey Behari temple here who are opposing the reported move by the Uttar Pradesh government to acquire and develop the shrine.
"We are with you," Bhagwat said yesterday when temple committee Vice President Ghanshyam Goswami and member Rajat Goswami raised the issue.
Bhagwat, who is on a two-day visit here starting Friday, also paid his obeisance to principal deity of Bankey Behari temple for world peace and said he would talk to Union Minister Uma Bharti about the "pathetic" state of Yamuna due to pollution.
Bhagwat also interacted with several noted saints during his visit. "He has tried to unite the saints of Vrindavan so that in the meeting of saints of the country in Sinhastha Kumbha, starting in Ujjain from April 22, the voice of Brijbhumi may properly be projected," a VHP leader said.
