The driver, now identified as Dominic, a native of Tamil Nadu and a resident of Lingarajapuram is still absconding with Rs 95 lakhs. 4 special teams have been formed to search for the man.
The police visited his residence on Wednesday but only found his wife who claimed to be unaware of the crime and his whereabouts.
The security personnel who had accompanied the cash van near Bank of India on K G Road is being questioned. "The van doesn't have a GPS installed. The gunman had left his firearm inside the van and left the driver alone. That is when Dominic made away with the money. All details he had submitted to the private cash distribution agency is being verified", said Anucheth, DCP west division.
Police sources claim that they suspect the gunman to be involved with the driver in the heist. Since protocol demands that one person never be allowed alone in the van at any given point in time.
Rs 95 lakhs in new Rs 2,000 currency notes still remain missing.
