Bengaluru: Depressed over mother's death, Amazon employee commits suicide
Bengaluru, Nov 8: Depressed over his mother's death due to cancer, an Amazon employee jumped to death from a 14-storey building.
According to a report published in TOI, 24-year-old Vipin Poornachandra was very upset following the demise of hid 54-year-old mother, Ms Meera Poornachandra.
Meera passed away at around 1 am, after battling cancer for two years, on Friday, Nov 6, at her residence in New Thippasandra in east Bengaluru.
Her husband Poornachandra had suffered a heart attack few years ago and she was survived by her two sons - Vinay and Vipin and a daughter.
Her younger, son, Vipin, who was working as a junior risk analyst at Amazon and was emotionally very attached to his mother, took the car keys and told his elder brother Vinay that he would be back soon.
At around 5 am, Vipin's friend Srujan, called Vinay and broke the heartbreaking news to the grief-stricken family. Vipin had drove in his Nano car, 20 kms away from home, at his friend's place, where he had left the world at around 2.40 am, by jumping from 14th floor of Army Apartments on Hoskote main road, past Kadugodi in southeast Bengaluru.
Srujan, who was then, asleep, came outside, when he and other residents of the apartment were alert by the security guards.
Before taking the extreme step, Vipin had texted Srujan saying, "I am going" at 2 am, but he read the message after the tragic incident had taken place.
Devastated Vinay told TOI that he had quit his job to take care of their ailing mother.
Vipin's shocked colleagues described him as a soft spoken and a tall guy with 6'3 height.
