Bengaluru: After 'Happy street', Its time for 'Open street' in MG

Bengaluru, Feb 21: After Commercial Street observed 'Happy Street' day, now MG road On Sunday, Feb 21 is all set for 12 hour vehicle free day from 9 am to 9 pm. Vehicles are banned to enter the stretch from Anil Kumble Circle till Cavery Emporium Junction in MG Road.

The 'open street' initiative is planned and executed by the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) and State Tourism Department. It is designed to promote public transport and urban tourism in the city.

MA Saleem, Traffic Commissioner told OneIndia "after having discussion with the commission we have decided to allow this vehicle free day in MG road, as this is the road which is always abuz with vehicular traffic.

Earlier also we along with the organiser executed 'Happy Street' in Commercial Street and people had welcomed this initiative, while took interest in participating and promoting the Bengaluru tourism.

"We will follow the orders of DULT to execute this vehicle free initiative while taking more effort to execute this plan further in other areas of city too. Today road will be buzzed with fun filled activities through out the day and pedestrian will feel happy to participate in the vehicle free street."

"Today traffic of MG Road is diverted to different road as Bengaluru police is putting all effort to manage Sunday traffic. BMTC will run 50 more buses in 11 route at a frequency of 15 to 10 minutes from Shantinagar to Koramangala. However we have also extended BMTC and Metro services timing till 11 PM for today," Saleem concluded.
