Beef row: Internet snapped in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 8: Internet services have been stopped in Jammu and Kashmir over fears of its misuse‎ on the issue of beef ban. There have been various incidents that have threatened the law and order mechanism over the issue of beef ban.

Despite the supreme court suspending the ban on beef for two months in Jammu and Kashmir there have been stray incidents over the issue. An independent MLA was beaten up after he organised a beef party.

The local police and intelligence have advised to stop internet services as this issue could be raked up through the social media.

Campaigns opposing the ban have been launched on the social media. Moreover, the incident in which the law maker was beaten up was threatening to blow into a major issue through social media campaigns.

No time frame has been given for how long the services would be snapped.

However, for now the atmosphere is not right and there could be widespread protests across the state the intelligence bureau has warned.

This is the second time that the internet services in Jammu and Kashmir have been stopped in the past month.

The last time internet services were snapped ahead of Eid. Moreover, the Jammu and Kashmir high court too had ordered the banning of beef.
