New Delhi, Nov 27: Preparations are underway for US President Barack Obama's scheduled visit to India. Senior officials from both the countries are busy in chalking out plans for Obama's visit to India.
Reports say that the US President who will be Chief Guest at next Republic Day may also visit historical monument Taj Mahal.
During his last visit to India in 2010, Obama skipped visit to Taj Mahal and chose to see Humayun Tomb. During this visit, Obama stayed in Maurya Sheraton's Presidental suite with his wife Michelle Obama. This is the same suite where former US President George W Bush stayed during his visit to India. The floor where both US Presidents stayed is known as grand Presidential floor. This floor was especially designed for Obama during his last trip to India.
PM Modi to receive Obama at airport?
According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi may receive President Barack Obama at Indira Gandhi International airport in New Dehi. Sources also say that during his January visit, Obama may also go to see Taj Mahal.
Obama to visit Rajghat
During his visit to India in January, Obama will visit Rajghat in Delhi. Obama, who is a self-confessed hero of Gandhi, also visited Mani Bhawan with his wife during his last visit. Mani Bhawan on Laburnum Road in South Mumbai is the place where the Father of the Nation stayed during his visits to the city.
The President in his speeches has often cited Gandhi as having a major influence on him.
After visiting the house of Mahatma Gandhi whom he looked to for inspiration, Obama hailed the Father of the Nation as "a hero not just to India but to the world."
"I am filled with hope and inspiration as I have the privilege to view this testament to Gandhi's life. He is a hero not just to India but to the world," Obama said.
