E-cigarettes recovered from Gurgaon
Gurgaon, Aug 1: The officials of food and drug administration (FDA) Friday raided the Kingdom of Dreams (KOD) amusement hub here and recovered banned Chinese electronic cigarettes, an official said.

A five-member FDA team, headed by Manmohan Taneja, recovered different varieties of electronic cigarettes from an outlet at the Kingdom of Dreams in Sector-29 here.

"These Chinese e-cigarettes contain poisonous nicotine ranging from 1.1-1.8 mg per ml. The team has also recovered their cartridges containing 11 mg of fatal nicotine per cartridge," an official told IANS.

"The department has sent the samples for testing to ascertain the quantity of nicotine and other such poisonous substances. These were being openly sold at such elite place openly despite prohibition," he said.

The outlet was being run and managed by Greenleaf Tradex Pvt. ltd.

"It's director Pawan Jain couldn't show any valid purchase records of these products," the official added.

Preparations containing nicotine are covered under the Drug Act and a license is required for the sale of such items.

The shop was selling the product without license.

All the products are made in China and imported by Delhi based firms.

"It is an offence punishable under Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and accused may be liable for five years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs.1 lakh," the official further added.
