He said,"The case has been solved in terms of identifying culprits. Two persons, Lalgiri and Wasim Pasha, both gym teachers, have been arrested. The child was not in the dark room as suspected earlier when crime happened but it happened in the premises."
The duo have been booked under Section 376 D of IPC Section 4 and 5 of POSCO (Protection of Child from Sexual Offences) Act. The school has reopened for classes 5 to 12 on Monday and it is likely to re-open for classes 1-4 on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the school authorities have assured the parents that their demands will be met, which include round the clock security, installing 76 additional CCTV cameras, raising the height of the compound wall and doing background checks of the staff.
The state government and the Bangalore police have given similar orders to all the schools in the city. Earlier, school chairperson Rustom Kerawalla was arrested, but was issued conditional bail on a surety of Rs 25,000.
State-wise protests had been launched by the parents of the school, raising issues relating to the safety and security of their children. The mass campaigned forced the authorities to take rapid action and bring the culprits to justice.
