Badaun rape case: Second accused constable arrested

Badaun, Jan 12: The second constable, Veerpal Yadav, accused of raping a 14-year-old girl was arrested from Bareilly on Sunday evening, says media reports.

Yadav's arrest came more than 10 days after the girl's family registered the complaint.

One of the two constables on the run after allegedly raping a minor inside a police station premises in Badaun on New Year eve, Avnish Yadav, was arrested last week when he was about to board a Delhi-bound train.

Constable Avnish Yadav was picked up from the railway station at around 1 am last Monday by the Special Task Force and local police.

Both the constables were dismissed following the incident.

The 14-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and gangraped by the two constables at Musajhag Police Station. Night duty incharge of the police station Himanshu Shukla and head constable Udayveer Singh have also been suspended. Sub-inspector Sobharan Singh Yadav has been taken off active duty.

IG, Law and Order, A Satish Ganesh had told reporters that medical examination of the girl had confirmed the rape.

A financial assistance of Rs 5 L had been given to the family members of the victim from the CM fund, according to officials.
