Berhampur (Odisha), Sept 29 (PTI) Odisha Medical Berhampur (Odisha), Sept 29 (PTI) Odisha MedicalServices Association (OMSA), a body of serving governmentdoctors in the state, has opposed any move to increaseretirement age of doctors from 60 to 62 years. "The step will only block their promotion toadministrative posts as seniors in the department will getadditional two years in service," OMSA president NirakaraBhatta stated in a release issued here. "The purpose of the government will not be solved byincreasing the retirement age, rather it will creatediscontent among the young medicos, who are waiting for theirpromotion, he said. The government increased the retirement age ofteachers in medical colleges to 65 recently. "The issue will be discussed thoroughly in theassociation," Bhatta said. He said the association had submitted memoranda tochief minister Naveen Patnaik and health and family welfareminister Damodar Rout, opposing the government's proposal. OMSA also demanded for 20 per cent administrativeallowance of the basic pay of the doctors holdingadministrative posts, declaring chief district medical officeras additional director and consider post-graduation studyperiod as in-service on deputation.
