New Delhi, Sept 4: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President, Asaduddin Owaisi praised India and its Constitution, during a debate on Pakistani news channel.
The event took place last year but the video has been doing the rounds on the social networking website Facebook.
Owaisi took part in the "Aman Ki Asha" event on Geo TV News, when the popular anchor Hamid Mir initiated the debate on various topics including 'Jihad', between a panel of Pakistani politicians and Indian politicians.
Besides, Owaisi, the Indian side was represented by the Congress senior leader Mani Shankar Aiyar and BJP MP as well as former cricketer Kirti Azad.
Pakistani side was represented by Dr Farid Ahmed Paracha, Shah Mehmood Qureshi from Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI), Khurram Dastgir Khan from Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), Syed Naveed Qamar from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Owaisi's praise of the Indian Constitution came when a question related to jihad and Hafiz Saeed was raised.
Dr Farid had raised a point on BJP's Hindutva ideology and RSS's anti-Muslims stand.
Then, Owaisi told Dr Farid that he should not blame India and Pakistan on the arrests of Jamaat-e-Islami activists' arrest in Bangladesh.
Owaisi further said, "Our Indian Constitution, from which all Indians abide by, says that India is a secular nation. India's fundamental rights on minorities believe in pluralism and is strong."
"You stop worrying about Indian Muslims as they decided 60 years ago, that India is their nation", he further said.
On Jihad, Owaisi said, "Is it Jihad to kill Shia Muslims? Jihad should be against Nafs (self)."
Owaisi's political party, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, has a strong presence in Hyderabad. It has retained Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat since 1984.
