Ahmedabad, May 25: Former Aam Admi Party leader Yogendra Yadav on Monday said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lacks political acumen to confront the Centre on the issue of full statehood status for Delhi.

Yadav along with Professor Anand Kumar addressed the media ahead of their their day-long 'Swaraj Samvad' convention here.

Commenting on the ongoing tussle between the AAP chief and Lt Governor Najeeb Jung, Yadav said Kejriwal and his government should handle the situation tactfully with patience.

The AAP defector, however, stood by Kejriwal on the issue of full statehood for Delhi, saying, "Primarily, demand for full statehood for Delhi is legitimate."

"To get full statehood and resolve the current political crisis, the AAP government must handle the situation carefully. They need to understand the situation with patience," said Yadav, adding that however, there is a complete lack of all these fronts in the present government.

"Instead of political wisdom, legal preparedness and patience, what we see is tussle and confrontation with Centre, mud-sledging and lock-downs of offices," Yadav said.

He said if such activities continue, it is doubtful that people of Delhi would ever get status of full statehood even in distant future. Yadav on the occasion defended the Kejriwal Government on reneging from poll promises and going 'slow' with plans.

"We don't see any harm in going slow. You can create headlines by taking speedy decisions without giving too much thought. This government (AAP) came to power with thumping mandate and it should be given some more time," said Yadav.

Chalking out roadmap of the Swaraj Abhiyan, Yadav and Kumar announced to hold kisan rallies across the country in coming weeks.

"To highlight plight of farmers and protest against the Land Bill, we will hold Kisan rallies in Delhi as well as other parts of state. The exact dates will be decided in our upcoming steering committee meet on June 2. We are also planning to march to Parliament during monsoon session," Kumar said.
