Arunachal CM reviews traffic snarls, road condition

Itanagar, Aug 2: Taking cognizance of the growing traffic congestion, poor road conditions in Capital Complex and improper solid waste management of the twin capital city, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu yesterday convened a high level meeting with departmental officials and reviewed the issues.

Khandu constituted a six-member Interim Committee to make a thorough case study of traffic congestions and come out with a definite solution.

He called for a clear-cut solution to the issues and directed concerned officials to submit the report latest by July 13. He advised them to take into consideration the views and suggestions of the citizens expressed through the online Survey Management System with regard to traffic management and road conditions of the state capital city that was recently launched by the government, an official release said here today.

Pointing that garbage collection is another issue that needs to be managed properly, the CM asked the DC Capital to make a proper plan of garbage collection so as to make the state capital garbage free.

He also assured to give full support to the Itanagar Municipal Council and Urban Development Department for garbage management. He asserted that the Administration, Urban Development and the Itanagar Municipal Council must work in tandem to manage the problem.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, also present in the meeting, said that need of the hour is development of civic sense among the capital dwellers. He stated that Waste Management is a part of cleanliness drive; people must change their mindset and inculcate a habit of cleanliness to make the city garbage free.

Chief Secretary Shakuntala Gamlin suggested charging minimal amount of fees from citizens so as to make the garbage management system self sustainable, the release added.
