As per the Directorate General Defence Estates, around 15,000 persons live in the Cantonment, situated in the Shahibaug area in eastern part of city.

It serves as a military base and a residential establishment with its own infrastructure of water supply, roads, building and sewerage system. A statement issued by the Defence PRO said the website of Cantonment Board does not contain any classified data.

"Technical investigation is in progress. This website is used primarily to send out public notices (for residents) and tender information. It contains no classified data whatsoever," said the statement.
