Aparajita Rai makes Sikkim proud, becomes the first Gorkha female IPS officer

Sikkim: 1st woman IPS appointed
Gangtok, Nov 4: 28-year old Aparajita Rai makes her state and her late parents proud as she is appointed the first woman IPS officer of Sikkim. Daughter of late Gyanendra Rai and Roma Rai, Aparajita cracked UPSC exams both in 2011 and 2012.

She ranked 358th in the UPSC exams of 2012 and was allocated the IPS cadre. Her callibre showed true colours as she won various prestigious trophies such as 1958 Batch IPS officers' Trophy for the best Lady Outdoor Probationer, Shri Umesh Chandra Trophy for Field Combat, the 55th Batch of Senior Course Officers Trophy for Best Turn Out, and West Bengal Govt Trophy for Bengali.

With an impeccable record throughout her academic career, Aparajita is a 2009 BA LLB (Hons) graduate from the WB National University of Juridical Sciences. She earned herself a gold medal in Jurisprudence and Public International Law.

She is now posted in Hoogly in West Bengal.
