AOL guru Ravi Shankar pays compensation to NGT
New Delhi, June 6: The Art of Living has submitted the final installment of its Rs 4.75 crore fine levied for damage to the Yamuna floodplains during the World Culture Festival organised on the Bank of Yamuna.
Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's organization deposited the compensation amount through demand draft to the DDA on June 3.
Ironically, the NGT (National Green Tribunal) had refused to prohibit the event on June 9 on the Yamuna floodplains, but slapped Rs 5 crore fine in the foundation for damaging the biodiversity of the ecologically sensitive floodplain.
Reacting to the NGT notice against Sri Sri Ravi Shankar for his alleged remarks against the green panel, the AOL said that the allegations on the spiritual guru were based on newspaper reports and were baseless.
The spiritual guru was blamed for targetting the NGT and saying that the fine imposed by it was politically motivated.
