Chennai, Dec 6: Their eyes were moist and lips parched, as thousands lined up to pay their last respects to their "beloved" leader--Amma (as J Jayalalithaa was popularly known as among her supporters) in Chennai on Tuesday.
The 68-year-old leader passed away at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, on Monday night.
The news of her demise was a thunderbolt from the sky for AIADMK cadres and her supporters.
Her fans wailed in despair to mourn the death of their favourite leader, who became the chief minister of Tamil Nadu not for once but for five times (1991-96, May-Sept 2001, 2002-06, 2011-14, 2015-16).
"Why did God take back Amma? She was in a good condition till 4 p.m. on Sunday. We all were confident that Amma will come out of hospital," a sobbing CR Saraswathi, spokesperson of AIADMK, told IANS.
