New Delhi, June 5: In a fitting honour to the country's soldiers, the national passenger carrier Air India is all set to provide business class seats to gallantry award winners in its domestic flights.
As per a report published in TOI, the soldiers who have been awarded for their bravery and former servicemen will have their seats upgraded from economy class to business class at the boarding gate, subject to availabaility of seats.
To avail the facility, the decorated soldiers will be required to submit their identitiy proof photo copy at the check-in-counter. The upgrade of seats will be only valid for the soldiers and not for their family members, who will be travelling along with them.
A senior official of Air India was quoted saying as, "We have taken this decision with immediate effect for Param Vir Chakra, Mahavir Chakra, Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra winners. We are proud of our soldiers and Air India chief Ashwini Lohani felt this is the least we can do to honour them."
However, the decorated soldiers will not be entitled for the business lounge facility, as the upgrade of seats will take place at the boarding gate.
