New Delhi, Nov 16: A mark of sheer negligence on the part of Air India officials, a flight bound from Jeddah to Mumbai via Hyderabad had a close shave when the cockpit panel indicated that one of the doors was not properly locked soon after the flight took off. It was carrying about 400 passengers.

The Boeing 747 Jumbo Flight AI 964 had to turn back to Jeddah for inspection and fix the problem. There were about 380 passengers and 12 crew members on board who took off from Saudi Arabia early this morning.

One of the sources said,"The plane AI 964 turned back at Jeddah following door indication coming on during climb. So as a precautionary measure, the pilot landed back at Jeddah where necessary inspections were carried out by engineers. The same was corrected by them."

However, Air India officials strongly deny the allegations. The flight was delayed by 2 hours and was taken directly to Mumbai, skipping Hyderabad as the schedule for the Flight Duty Time Limitation of the staff, including the pilots, was about to end. Passengers who were Hyderabad-bound were flown to the city by a separate flight.
