Rift out in the open, the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu is resorting to hotel politics. Soon after the meeting with General Secretary Sasikala Natarajan at the AIADMK headquarters on Wednesday, MLAs were shifted to nearby hotels. The move is a clear attempt by the party to ensure that no legislator switches loyalty and joins O Panneerselvam's camp.
Stuffed into three buses, legislators were taken to different hotels in the city soon after the meeting. AIADMK organising secretary K A Sengottaiyan claimed that a total of 130 MLAs attended the meeting at the party headquarters while 3 MLAs, 1 MP and many rebel AIADMK leaders were at Panneerselvam's residence.
With uncertainty looming large, the Sasikala camp does not want to take any chance. The massive public support that Panneerselvam has been garnering has been giving Sasikala's camp the jitters but legislators support comes as a relief. Sasikala wants to ensure that the support she has been promised continues till the governor's return to Chennai. With public sentiment already against her and Panneerselvam scoring the sympathy brownie points, losing the support of MLAs means losing power for Sasikala.
Meanwhile, Sasikala also expelled AIADMK IT wing Secretary Ramachandran for alleged anti-party activities. He is considered a close aide of Panneerselvam and was seen with him. The members of the IT wing are now taking to social media to rebel against Sasikala in utter defiance and pledging support to Panneerselvam.
