Ahmedabad: Nirbhaya-like case, 6-year-old girl sexually assaulted with iron rod

Ahmedabad, March 8: The day which is celebrated as the International Women's Day (March 8) gave a shocking news to the country. A 6-year-old girl has been brutally raped in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Years after the infamous Dec 16 Delhi gangrape case, it has been reported that the girl child was assaulted with an iron rod.

The incident took place in Ahmedabad on the eve of Holi at Sola of the city. The accused has been identified as Kaushal Anilsingh Chauhan.

The 24-year-old accused hails from Uttar Pradesh. Media reports claimed that Chauhan inserted an iron rod into her private parts. Police arrested the accused.

However, police claimed that the accused did not rape the minor girl, rather sexually assaulted her with the iron rod.

He has been booked under IPC section 375 (d) (manipulating any part of the body of a child so as to cause penetration of the private part), as per the new anti-rape laws and under relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

According to sources, the girl was assaulted when playing an under-construction site near Sola over-bridge. Initial investigation claimed that Chauhan had rivalry with the parents of the girl.

The girl, whose parents work as labourers at the site, has been sent to Sola civil hospital and her condition is stated to be stable.

The shocking incident surfaced at a time when the country has been witnessing a fresh controversy in connection with a documentary on Dec 16 gang-rape case.

Government of India banned the documentary in the country whereas BBC broadcasted it. The documentary features interview of one of the rape convicts -- Mukesh Singh.

Mukesh Singh, who has been lodged in Tihar jail in Delhi, along with 5 others had raped a 23-year-old girl who is known as Nirbhaya. The six convicts had inserted iron rod inside her private parts and later had thrown her out of a moving bus.
