BJP demands Hooda's resignation
Chandigarh, May 17: With ruling Congress in Haryana managing to win just one of the 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state, BJP today demanded resignation of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on moral grounds.

The opposition party also demanded that Assembly polls in the state, which are due in October, should be held immediately. People have rejected Congress and the Chief Minister should step down on moral grounds, BJP's Legislature Party leader from Haryana Anil Vij said.

"We demand Hooda's resignation and immediate holding of the Assembly elections," Vij, the Ambala Cantt MLA, said.

"The Chief Minister had been boasting that his Haryana model of development was the best in the country. He always used to find faults with the Gujarat model. The CM used to say that Haryana is No 1 state on all fronts. His claims were hollow and now the people have shown him the mirror.

"Now, Hooda should quit on moral grounds as the people of Haryana have outrightly rejected Congress and its policies," Vij said.

Riding on the "Modi wave", BJP has made an impressive comeback in Haryana after a 15-year gap, winning seven of the eight seats it contested, while, Congress faced a rout with five of its sitting MPs tasting defeat.

BJP won seven seats of Ambala (SC), Kurukshetra, Karnal, Sonipat, Faridabad, Gurgaon and Bhiwani-Mahendargarh, but lost from Rohtak, where Hooda's son Deepinder Singh managed to retain his seat.

INLD won two seats of Sirsa (SC) and Hisar. Earlier, Chief Minister Hooda had described the Lok Sabha polls as the "semi-final" to the Assembly polls.
