Acid attack survivor is face of women's empowerment in Uttarakhand
Dehradun, Sep 23: Uttarakhand government on Wednesday appointed acid attack survivor Kavita Bisht as its brand ambassador for women's empowerment.
A government order in keeping with Chief Minister Harish Rawat's earlier announcement on Bisht's appointment as the state's brand ambassador for women's empowerment was issued today, Principal Secretary of Women's Empowerment and Child Development Department Radha Raturi said.
25-year-old Kavita, who hails from Golapar near Haldwani in Nainital district, is an acid attack survivor who did not just lose her looks in the incident seven years ago but also her eyesight.
However, she refused to give up and continued to create awareness in society against acid attacks. With her appointment, Kavita can work in tandem with the state government for gender equality and women's empowerment.
While announcing his plan to appoint Kavita as the brand ambassador for women's empowerment in Uttarakhand a few months back, Chief Minister Harish Rawat had described her as a woman who was source of inspiration for millions of women all over the country.
